The DHS Varsity Mixed Choir will sing at the Red River Sing-off competition at the South Eastern University on the Tuesday before Fall Break.
The choir practices every day during school. The mixed choir meets one day in every week during Encore.
This year, there are 110 members, a greater number than last year, but they have less boys because DHS graduated a huge boy class last year.
The choir is also preparing for Mary Poppins.
Practice is every Tuesday until two or three weeks before the performance, then they practice every day.
Mary Poppins will be the biggest event. It will be a really big show. The choir also hire a professional flying company, so that Mary Poppins will fly.
Deborah Clements, the choir director, talks about her feelings and what is special about choir.
“Exciting and overwhelming,” Clements said. “It’s a place where people can come. They may not be the smartest in class and they may not be the athlete, but when they are here they are together and become a family.”
Mary Poppins will perform Saturday, Nov. 5 to Tuesday, Nov. 8.
