Maradeth Shelton, a senior at Durant High School, is about to get the opportunity that most seniors do not have. She was invited by the Oklahoma Ambassadors of Music to play her french horn in Europe, because of her musical, and leadership abilities.
Maradeth has been fundraising money to afford this trip. The trip itself cost $6,000, and she has raised $1,200 of the expenses. In order to raise this money, Maradeth has been selling bracelets, and t-shirts. Bracelets cost two or four dollars, and t-shirts cost $15.
Maradeth is very involved with the Pride of Durant. She plays the french horn, and is the section leader of the french horn section.
“I want to go to Europe because this is an opportunity that I might not ever get again” Maradeth says.
Maradeth will be in Europe for two weeks, and will travel to seven different locations. England, France, Italy, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Principality, Austria, and Germany. In Europe, Mara will be playing in a band that is made up of many different kids from different bands that also have an outstanding musical ability. They will all be performing at major landmarks, such as the base of the Matterhorn Mountain in Switzerland, and at the St. Paul’s Cathedral.
Maradeth has been in the band since she was in sixth grade. She has been to many performances with the Pride, and this year is her last year with the Pride. Europe will be the last time she will ever perform as a member of the Pride.
Maradeth is still fundraising, so if you want to help, then buy a bracelet or a t-shirt.
