The 2016-2017 DHS Varsity Mixed Chorus members are in the process of learning pronunciations of the French language.
The Mixed Choir has been working with choir assistant Ms. Johnson on a French piece they will be performing later on in the school year. Ms. Johnson learned French pronunciations along with many other foreign language pronunciations throughout her college career. “It’s exciting to share my knowledge of these pronunciations with the students,” Johnson said.
“I’ve seen incredible progress over the course of these few weeks we’ve been working on the pronunciation and I can’t wait for them to perform and show everyone what they’ve worked so hard on.”
Through the week of Mar. 5-10, Mixed Chorus members were tested on the French piece. The students went into a separate room with Ms. Johnson where she listened to them individually pronounce and sing the French piece. After the performances or “auditions” were completed, she stated that, “the students were prepared and it was obvious that they’ve practiced intensely.”
Durant High School’s Varsity Mixed Chorus members will be performing at an OSSAA Choral Contest held at the University of Central Oklahoma on Apr. 4, 2017. The Varsity Choir will perform three pieces, one being the French, De Ton Reve.
Good luck to our Varsity Mixed Chorus at their next state contest!
