On Wednesday, Oct. 5, the Lady Lions had a great start to the regional tournament.
The Lady Lions beat the Bishop Kelley Comets in the first game by a score of 11-0.
Destinee Lewis hit two homeruns in this game. She hit one in the second inning scoring a two RBIs and one in the third. Then they walked her for the rest of the game.
The Lady Lions were to play the winner of the game between Grove Ridgerunners and the Bishop Mcguinness Irish. The Lady Ridgerunners beat the Lady Irish 10-0.
The Irish then played against the Lady Comets. The Comets won 16-5.
The Lady Lions then played Lady Ridgerunners. The Lady Lions beat the Lady Ridgerunners 6-1.
Haley Morgan hit two home runs in this game. Lewis hit one.
On Thursday, Oct. 6 the Lady Ridgerunners played the Lady Comets. To find out who would play the Lady Lions in the championship game.
The Lady Ridgerunners beat the Lady Comets 5-1.
Durant and Grove then played in the championship game.
Durant scored early in the bottom of the first inning. When Brianna “Red” Simmons hit one to right field bringing in Haley Morgan and Lewis, and leaving herself on second.
The Lady Ridgerunners second basemen Blaise Redus hit a homerun, scoring Grove’s only run.
The Lady Lions won their third regional championship by a score of 11-1.
Durant will be playing in the state tournament next Thursday. Which will be held at ASA Hall of Fame Stadium complex.
The Lady Lions have gone to state three years in a row now. The last two years they have lost in the very first game.
“We are 0-2,” head coach Aaron Mullens said. “Like they say, maybe the third time’s the charm,” Mullens said.
The Durant High School Journalism class wishes the Lady Lions the best of luck in the state tournament.
