On Tuesday, Jan. 11, five Durant students will head to Oklahoma City for the OCDA All-State Junior High Honor Chorus. They will participate in two different choirs, the mixed chorus, and the treble chorus and each chorus will perform six pieces.
They have auditioned and made it passed the first two rounds of auditions and when they arrive they will go through another set of auditions to make sure they know their music. The students are Gracyn Gross, Dawson Bowman, Addyson Gaillairdet, Chloe Cagle, and Emily Farr. They will go through a series of rehearsals with renowned clinicians on Thursday and Friday and will present a concert on Saturday at the First Nazarene Church, in Bethany for friends and family.
Durant High School freshman and three-year OCDA choir member Chloe Cagle said she was really looking forward to the upcoming experience.
“This will be my third year attending the OCDA All-State Honor Choir. It is amazing every year, though last year it was cut short due to the weather,” Cagle said. “I am so excited to go and do what I love, under the direction of our fantastic clinician. We spend a lot of time going to different restaurants and sights in downtown Oklahoma City and it is really fun.”
After two months of practicing and learning the students will get to put their skills, they have received to the test and show to their parents that all the hours of practice and stress of the auditions has finally paid off.
The choir will perform on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. in Bethany. The mixed chorus will perform first, the treble chorus will perform second, and the jazz choir will finish up the concert.
